The Best Man's Michael McKean Struck by Car

Michael McKean, who is currently starring on Broadway in Gore Vidal's The Best Man, was struck by a car on May 22 on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, according to The New York Daily News. The actor suffered a broken leg and is reportedly in stable condition.

Best known for his roles in This Is Spinal Tap, the 1970s sitcom Laverne & Shirley and the movies of Christopher Guest (Best In Show, A Mighty Wind), McKean's Broadway credits include Superior Donuts, The Homecoming, The Pajama Game, Hairspray and Accomplice. He received an Oscar nomination for composing “A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow” with his wife, actress Annette O’Toole, featured in A Mighty Wind.

McKean is currently appearing at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre as Dick Jensen, campaign manager to Senator William Russell (John Larroquette), in the political drama, which also features James Earl Jones, Eric McCormack and Angela Lansbury.

“It’s the first time he will have ever missed a curtain in his entire life,” publicist Harriet Sternberg told the News. “His understudy has never gone on in 40-plus years."
